I think Penn makes sense if you really want to go all-in on your JD/PhD goal while wanting to save your parents some cash. You'd obviously have to recognize that you're likely giving up some placement power in academia immediately following graduation, but with the JD/PhD credential, provided you c...

For the PhD side of things, you will need to do (or have already done I suppose) research into which school has the best faculty/program in early US history. To succeed in the history side of academia that will be really important. My info is really old but I’d have put Penn up there pretty high, a...

What kind of debt you'd be looking at from all of them would be really helpful in giving advice. I know your family is helping you out, but does that mean they'll cover COA at all of them, or does it mean you'll have some debt at some of them, none at others, etc. The scholarships are meaningless u...

How much is the Dean's scholarship worth? If it's six figures then that would seem the obvious choice.
Yes, 126,000.

Stanford v. Harvard v. Penn (Dean's Fellowship) v. Chicago (45,000 $) - Interested in Legal History

Hi everyone, I have been very fortunate to be accepted to a number of excellent law schools this cycle and I am now trying to make a final decision. I would appreciate any help with this. My background: I am a recent Stanford UG graduate with an interest in studying early American legal history and ...

Re: Columbia Class of 2021 Applicants Thread (2017-2018)

Got "hold" email - above both 75% (in at H, S, and Chicago). If I got the Hamilton, Columbia would quite possibly be my first choice (and I would strongly consider a Butler). Does anyone know if a Hamilton or Butler is possible after a hold?

It’s been nearly 3 weeks since I interviewed for the Darrow scholarship, and I was just offered a Dean’s scholarship via email. Good luck to all still waiting!
Same.

They've accepted a few people who interviewed.
Thanks. Do you know if any of them interviewed when I did (or after)?

Platopus checking in You're back! I never thought you would come back! Just took a well needed break. All the anxiety made me really neurotic and spiteful, so I decided to relax. Having been admitted to my top choice, I'm also less worried about outing myself. Now to grind out another 1500+ post fo...
