Re: 2 weeks in - barely billing anything
Yeah dude, enjoy chill stub life while you can. If it gives you comfort, I billed like maybe 50 hours total during my first 3 months. I wouldn't worry about hours until February at the earliest. okay cool — a mid-level did tell us he doesn’t even think anyone checks stub year hours so I mostly assu...

2 weeks in - barely billing anything
been at the firm for almost 2 weeks (stub year) and have only done about 6 or 7 hours of client billable work. pretty much just sat at my desk all day today. I've been asking around for work. normal?

Re: Notes During Bar Prep
I keep seeing people on reddit struggle with Barbri and studying 8 hours a day, but I’m studying about 4-5 hours a day and doing well above average. How much did you study and how well did you do on your practice questions? Should the studying process feel easier for those who were also naturals whe...

don't want to keep making new threads so I'll ask here: how much extra work did you do beyond the Themis/Barbri schedule? Thanks.

Re: Notes During Bar Prep
Are you doing a UBE? I went way over board but made my own outlines for all the possible essay topics and made flow charts of pretty much everything that you could make a chart out of. It was overkill, but the only way I learned to write the essays. I had Kaplan and just didn't find the material to...

Re: Notes During Bar Prep
I took notes during the lectures, which I found more helpful than just filling in the lecture outlines. But that’s just what worked for me, and was what I did throughout law school (I don’t learn very well from premade outlines). And I gave up reading the outlines they provided pretty quickly, exce...

Notes During Bar Prep
I am using Barbri for Bar study. did you take notes while prepping? I'm not sure if it'd be a waste of time since there are outlines (which seem way too detailed). Thanks!

Re: Smokey’s Guide to Biglaw Summer Associate
is it okay to be incredibly slow some weeks? I only billed like 8 hours this week and I was asking for work but no one really gave me anything that took a long time - definitely expecting to bill substantially more next week though.

Re: Researching Firms: A NALP and Chambers and Partners How-to
on the NALP form, what does it mean if the "number of summers considered for offers" is lower than the number of summers the firm had that year? For example, X firm had 5 summers, but it says 4 were considered and 4 were offered. is this still a 100% offer rate?

Re: Smokey’s Guide to Biglaw Summer Associate
is it okay to ask for one day off for my sister’s grad ceremony? Yes, but it’s still important how you do it. Inform your primary contact at the firm (likely recruiting) that you have a potential conflict on the date of her graduation, and ask if that would conflict with any firm events. If not, ju...

probably dumb question: I’m assuming it isn’t possible to bill 2K and take a ton of vacation for the rest of the year, right? (otherwise everyone would do it?)
