Re: Harvard vs. Yale NY Big Law
Yale is the easy choice if you're interested in clerking, and especially if you're interested in actually doing appellate work at a firm.

Re: Harvard vs. Yale NY Big Law
NYC transactional while aiming for F500 GC is one of the few goals where Harvard makes sense over Yale. Proximity to HBS and larger class sizes both favor H here. Ahh so this is the network argument, correct? Does the alumni network, or simply knowing a lot more future lawyers, really make that muc...

Re: Give up?
You should consider the other half of the judiciary. Even as a liberal, you can apply to most Bush/Trump appointees without applying to someone on the far end of the conservative spectrum. Most cases, and thus most of a clerk's work, don't have any left/right polarization. And working for a liberal ...

Re: A clerkship is a clerkship?
Yes, an AIII clerkship is an AIII clerkship. ATL is trying hard to smear the recent appointees, but the prestige of an AIII will always outweigh the political leanings of a given AIII judge. At least for law-firm hiring purposes. It is a prestige-driven business.

Re: 2 weeks in - barely billing anything
Totally normal. Don’t sweat it until your at least a few weeks or so into the billable year. this would be January, right? thanks all! It varies by firm. In my experience, the most common start dates for the billable year are 11/01, 12/01, and 01/01. If your firm’s billable year begins sometime muc...

Re: Speeding Ticket Addendum?
You’re overthinking this. You need one sentence, maybe two: “To the best of my recollection, I have received three speeding tickets.” If it asks for dates then just add a second sentence that states the approximate year of each ticket.

No. It would require too many classes, and would be too little benefit. You’ve got a great GPA, enjoy the summer!

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions
Currently looking at courses for 2L Fall. Is 4 classes a good number to take, roughly? In terms of credits, like 4+4+4+2. Depends on your goals, really. I think you still need to average 12 hours/semester for 2L and 3L to graduate on time, but other than that it is whether you want to slack, get ma...

Eugene Volokh's book on Academic Legal Writing is worth having if you can afford it. If not, just visit your library and scan the pages that talk about the write on.

Re: Dropping a class hurting chances?
I used the 7sage CAS calculator. It says to count all Ws as Fs. The transcript doesn't really say anything to explain it, so not super sure. I'll check ut the website, thank you! You should count a W as an F only if it was punitive, no matter what the 7sage calculator says. Look closely at your off...

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions
Hi! Is it reasonable for admitted students to email professors (admitted recently) about opportunities in a specific research area? I'm curious, though I'm unsure if it would be to aggressive to contact faculty this early. My opinion: it depends. In particular it depends on your credentials and you...

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions
Got it, so they won't tell us whether it was an H/P/LP memo? I guess that's to be expected. God I'm so stressed. I got a P+ on the closed memo, a P on the open memo, and an H for the term. That is what I meant by my memo grades not being predictive. It is all extremely dependent on your Climenko th...

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions
I got minimal feedback in the form of handwritten comments on the memo. The comments were not indicative of my final grade.

Re: Reapplying to a firm for 2L summer
When reapplying to a firm that rejected you for 1L summer, should you acknowledge the previous application in your cover letter? Does it make any difference if the recruiter put a hand-written note of encouragement in the margins of the form letter? No, don't mention it. Recruiting will have you in...

It is firm dependent. Best way to find out is to look at the firm bios of appellate associates.

Short answer is that it won't matter.
Any firm sophisticated enough to assign numerical weights will almost certainly just calculate your GPA.

Ignore the flyer, apply now. The judges don't even know the flyer exists. The delay is not strategic.
