Re: Federal Security Clearance Timeline

Depends on whether you're the president's son-in-law.

For real though, it took a couple of weeks for me. But I did not have any negative information coming out.

Re: Debevoise thread on tls

For diverse law students, how would we go about figuring out which firms source their work from the Fortune 500 vs. the finance industry as a sort of proxy for the extent to which a firm might care about diversity (even if forced) Another way to get a sense of it is to look at the partner profiles ...

I managed to dodge a TLS ban back during the migration, but I still dont' want to post over there. But holy shit the DPW slams are relentless and amazing. Sorry any DPW bros. That tracking shit sounds awful.
I sincerely hope some DPW partners read it

Re: NY to 190 — are YOU getting a summer bonus?

tls is discussing dpw like it’s a third world country what is happening I have to admit I'm getting a pretty good laugh from the posting over there, and the cheeky shit should come over here. The fish thing...great. One thing about that situation was the lunch speaker was a DPW partner so I kinda w...

Re: NY to 190 — are YOU getting a summer bonus?

Yeah if the market tops at 190 then you won't see many firms offering summer bonuses.

At this point it kinda comes down to what cravath and kirkland do, IMO.

Re: NY to 190 — are YOU getting a summer bonus?

The thing about the summer bonus is that it can be taken away during the recession. Easier for law firms to say that they're taking away the summer bonus than reducing salaries from, say, 200 back down to 190. I think that's what Simpson is thinking, and they're trying to pre-empt a move to 200. Th...

Re: Where are all the 35-55 year old lawyers?

As for large firms, it's pretty unsurprising that the up and out model leaves only people fresh out of law school and partners who will die in their offices someday. I've been working in NYC for 6 months and have already heard of this happening twice. I heard one story in which an ancient partner d...

I couldn't disagree more about offering to pay for stuff This sorta ties into the general admonition that you are on a 10-week interview and should do your best not to rub anyone the wrong way. If I'm buying drinks/lunch or whatever (out of my own pocket) for some SA and they don't at least offer t...

Re: Bad Interview Moments

Once, I got an email from a friend that a certain biglaw firm in a major market was looking for associates in my practice area. I was clerking at the time. The friend referred me to the partner, who asked to meet me for coffee near his office so we can talk about the position. The day before the int...

How bad would it look to bolt from a firm after one year?

So to cut a long story short - My girlfriend and I moved to a major market together. I am clerking and she is at a big firm. After a rough spot we've decided to go our separate ways after our lease is up. She is heading back home to a smaller market, and I have a job lined up with a big firm in the ...

Tax withholding on clerkship bonus

Hey all - I've consulted various resources about this but would like some input from former clerks.

For people living in NYC, how much did you pay in taxes on a 50k clerkship bonus?
