It's that time again, so I'm going to post what I've found of the Class of 2019 employment data. Michigan - 68.1% (+0.4%) Duke - 79.6% (+2.3%) Vanderbilt - 61.9% (-2.3%) Boston University - 49.0% (+1.2%) Fordham - 48.7% (-4.1%) Boston College - 49.8% (+3.3%) Illinois - 39.3% (+11.8%) That'll get us...

I don't think the employment/good undergrad will matter much. That your race/nationality is underrepresented will matter some but I'm not sure how much.
I'd like your odds a lot better if you had 2 more points on the LSAT and/or a GPA of 3.4 or better. But you're in the ballpark for UCI.

Re: what should I be asking before I sign an offer
I'm of the mindset that you can ask practically whatever the hell matters to you as long as you do it diplomatically. All of the questions you mentioned are probably alright to ask in some form--i.e., what do associates actually bill on average (because every firm advertises what, a 1900 or 1950 bi...

Re: Rowdy's Guide to the LSAT
Just a quick thank you for this. It's perfect for my timeline. Slowing down to work purely on PT's, and my weaknesses up front feels like a game changer. Last time I studied (a few years back) I was focused on everything evenly, and I knew it wasn't working, but had no alternative theories to chang...

Re: Older 0L, ready to take plunge, have questions.
Do you know your LSAC GPA? That 3.8 might not be a 3.8 in the eyes of law schools if you have an old undergrad record from years ago hanging out that is worse--LSAC counts all grades from all colleges that show up on your transcript, even if they aren't calculated into your degree GPA. If I were you...

Echo above. You can retake the LSAT -- but you can't retake undergrad. Focus on college now, plan on taking a year or more off between college and law school to work or volunteer and study for the LSAT.

Regional / Secondary Market Guide?
I remember seeing a pdf guide to different legal markets, including regional and secondary markets, but I can't for the life of me find it now. IIRC it discusses which practice areas are strong / growing in each market and one of the markets is Salt Lake City. I am going to keep scouring the interne...

Re: Deciding if Law School is the Right Path?
I'd suggest finding someone who went to your undergrad or has some other connection to you if you're going to cold e-mail. E-mail is better than linkedin. The e-mail should be short and sweet--what your connection is, you have a few questions, do they have time for a 20 minute phone call or coffee. ...

Re: Weighing Scholarship vs ranking
OP, there are people with full rides at my school who are at the bottom of the class and vice versa. If you're taking 3 years of your life you should probably ask what happens if you're in the bottom third or worse at any of these schools and if you're okay with that outcome

Re: Cornell ($) v USC ($$$) for Entertainment Law
*work visa required* I am not an expert but this is the only thing that would make me lean more into Cornell. I don't know how hard it is to get a work visa outside of big law, someone else will have to chime in. If it's pretty much "big law or leave the country" Cornell is a MUCH more risk averse o...

Re: Rowdy's Guide to the LSAT
Great advice, Rowdy. What process would you recommend for the questions that you cannot get to in 35 minutes. Say I am doing an LR section and I can't get to the last 2-3 questions in the time allotted. Should I continue on to those questions and make note of the additional time it took me to finis...

Re: Lewis & Clark Applicants (c/o 2022)
I'm not here to shit on Oregon law schools but it's a tough, tough market and there are half as many jobs for new grads as there are new grads every year. The state would be better off if one of those schools closed.

Re: Lewis & Clark Applicants (c/o 2022)
I interviewed on Feb. 6th and got an email today that I’m on the waitlist. Does anyone know the chance of possibly being admitted before the fall semester? I would appreciate any advice! This is not the advice you asked for, but I'd be really hesitant to pay full price for L&C, which is what you'll...

Once you’re at the firm, your quality and body of work is essential ― Harvard or not. Annually, when the partnership committee confers to review the candidates and makes it’s selections, being a Harvard grad is a big plus. If you can’t get your head around that, check out Stranger’s easy-to-underst...
