Re: Grades for Harvard to Yale?

Seconding the above. If you have the grades to transfer, you're doing amazing at Harvard and you'll have excellent opportunities for academia. Yeah I guess I was wondering if there was an outcome below "amazing" (9/10 Honors >>law review or something), that would be competitive for transferring. I ...

Re: Grades for Harvard to Yale?

It very rarely makes sense to transfer "horizontally" like this. In terms of outcomes, the top third of the class at HLS (which I assume would be the minimum to transfer without a compelling personal reason -it might well be even more selective) is already doing at least as well as a randomly-chose...

Grades for Harvard to Yale?

Hello, I'm about to embark at HLS. I'm very excited and happy to be attending HLS, but I am also interested in transferring to Yale. This is mostly because I want to go into academia, but also because I just really think I'd prefer the academic experience at YLS. Roughly what Honors/Pass ratio might...

Should we expect to receive an answer to matching requests this week, seeing as the enrollment deadline is by April 15?

Re: UVA (sticker) vs. Columbia (sticker)

it's also important to note that being able to "stick it out" in biglaw isn't just random because of economics and your own work product being acceptable. like, my experience at my firm has been okay (posting from work on friday evening having canceled plans notwithstanding...). but my friend's exp...

Re: Deferral and joint deposits

I was admitted to Colubmia as a Hamilton Fellow. I have been waitlisted by both Harvard and Stanford, and am not expecting to get into Yale. Because I plan to defer, I will be removing myself from the waitlists. I was thrilled to receive the Hamilton, and it looks like I will be heading to Columbia...

Re: Berkeley C/O 2021

Man Berkeley needs to stop sending non-scholarship-related emails to admitted students. I KNOW that I have to respond by April 15, that's why I want to know if I can afford to go.

Anyone receive a response to their reconsideration request that submitted around a week after the email opened, like the 27th? Trying to gage when to expect a response.

ASW Stipend Rules

Hey all, I'm wondering what are the rules are for accepting travel stipends for ASW when events run on consecutive days, but are in different states? I'm thinking specifically of the upcoming Columbia/Harvard ASWs. My total travel from home >> NY >> Boston >> home is probably $850 or so, so even the...

Has anyone successfully gotten a travel stipend to attend ASW who didn't request a fee waver? Is it hard? Also, what is the maximum amount that they offer (I've got little money and am coming from overseas).

I hope that this is just Chicago using cunning negotiating strategy and not them getting more stingy with scholarships because of their competitive USNWR status.

Does anyone have any idea how a State Department salary would factor into LIPP? When you work for State you get benefits like free housing and lower taxes, so your take-home is higher than your salary might suggest.

Re: Columbia Students Taking Questions

Any advice on how to negotiate up from a Butler scholarship? Not necessarily to a Hamilton, but just like 5-10k more a year? Do you have to do it through the need-based application, or can you just contact admissions directly? Would Columbia be at all moved by a higher scholarship at Michigan or Duk...

Re: Negotiating aid - do’s & don’t’s

I think Columbia doesn't negotiate up from a Butler, if I recall correctly. I don't think they have a form or anything. If I'm wrong, that would be great, because I also want to negotiate up from a Butler.

Can you defer your admission to UChicago? Specifically, can you defer your (merit) scholarship? I want to go to Chicago over Columbia, but Columbia lets you defer your scholarship, and I need to defer.
I'm bumping my own question, because I can't find this info anywhere!

Re: Harvard v. Stanford. v. Ruby @ Chicago

Are opportunities at Chicago for non-Ruby students really that much worse? I'm deciding between Harvard and Chicago with 1/2 tuition, and the fact that an actual Ruby winner is probably going to take H makes me feel like I'd be a fool to go to Chicago.

Re: UChicago Students and Grads Taking Questions and providing positive externalities

Where do most students live? How much is average rent? Is Hyde Park a good place to live for a couple years? I'm deciding between Chicago and Columbia with equal scholarships so the location is the major deciding factor for me.
