Also, I think as long as your honest, you don’t have to worry so much about whether you had it better/worse than someone else. Just speak your truth.

Re: Could either of these be decent personal statement topics? Or are they just generic sob stories?

Why not combine both? Start with the first story and tie it into the second. I know you have only 2 pages, but I there are enough narrative similarities that I think it could work. Something like —> when I was 9/10 I found my voice through this experience and it shaped my values —> then those values...

My brother is thinking of applying. We were both raised Muslim but are pretty much atheist. How weirded out will he be if he attends? Like how Catholic is the school and instructions in practice?

I’m not sure how universal this is, but at my firm the healthcare group does a ton of different types of work. The main thread uniting the projects is that the clients operate in the healthcare space. So a typical junior associate may be working on projects related to hospital financing / bond issua...

Darrow by a mile. If your from the middle class, think about what $300k in your pocket means for you and your family. Having graduated and worked with a lot of H/S/Y grads in big law, I’m even more convinced the $$ is the right answer. And Michigan is a great school.

Re: UVA Law Students & Graduates Taking Questions

Hi friends! I was admitted earlier this month and am starting my research on laptops for next year. I know the bookstore has a program that lets you purchase them through the school and get special tech help, but they currently don't have the newest MacBooks. How important is it to go through the s...

I'd post my firm's health insurance premiums / policy, but I'm afraid it would out me. Is there a way to post anonymously?

Re: No cumulative GPA (but with degree GPA)

If I were you, I would try to get to 60 credit hours just so that you dont raise eyebrows with admissions if you can. Based on what you're saying, you did 56 hours over 6 semesters. That's about 9.5 credits per semester. At most universities, you need at least 12 credit hours to be a full-time stude...

2) If they do the background check, and my old firm squeals on me for reneging (they didn't like me that much anyway so maybe they'll keep quiet) will the new firm conceivably rescind the offer? In my experience, they run the background check like 2 weeks before you start. So like I’m starting as a...

Thank you for the answer! I think those goals sound perfect to me. If by some miracle I get accepted to UVA, I hope to experience something similar to your own time. What other schools were you considering, if you don't mind me asking? In short, why did you choose UVA over the other schools? Was it...

Thank you for taking some time to answer questions and congratulations on graduating from UVA! Do you mind if I ask what your goals were? Also, in your graduating class, were people at median able to swing for DC during OGI? Was there a sense that it was more or less competitive than before? Also, ...

I really enjoyed my 3 years there and feel like it set me up really well for achieving my goals! I can specifically answer any questions about the Di...

Re: T20s with a 3.1 GPA 162 LSAT

So first, all is not lost. You can definitely get into those schools, but realize that a retake of the lsat may be the smartest move (even beyond just the next January retake). Unfortunately your gpa is doing you no favors, so that just means you really have to take all the shots at LSAT that you ca...

Re: reapplication worthiness

I'm amazed nobody has already said this, but don't go to law school. You have a successful career with a high paying job. Law is an oversaturated profession that mostly pays badly, and the well paying jobs usually don't last longer than a few years. You're not a 23 year old with a liberal arts degr...

Re: 3.3/166 Additional Information Included

What are your softs? What job do you have and what’s your major? Generally I think the above advice is correct, but I have seen strong softs carrying lower lsat/gaps to admission at the lower T14s—but with no money so probably not worth it in the end.

Can you elaborate on what different reasons caused you to not perform well? Based on the info you provided, unless you make some major changes / updates, I’d almost expect a worse result next time. If you do decide to apply again, I’d write all new essays and get new letters of recommendations so yo...

1. How much are y'all paying for your phones? There is nothing unique about phone costs in Charlottesville. Generally, I think most UVA Law students are on some sort of bundle plan with family, a signficiant other, etc. I'd guess phone costs are between $100-150/month depending on provider and need...

Frankly I’d include it for law school admissions, but not for real world job applications. In my experience the law school resumes often include more stuff than a real world resume and what you accomplished sounds impressive to me. Just include a line briefly explaining what it took to get the endor...

I think almost all of UVA's scholarships are merit-based. They don't have an official name, but people will get letters telling them that they've been awarded a scholarship of X amount. The Dillard is just an official full-ride which comes with some extras, such as that the amount of the scholarship...
