your PS should just say "check the record, this is a paper 180."

in all seriousness though, Columbia sandbagging today's bad news makes me feel like one of Scott's Tots

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

I took the LSAT on paper way back in olden times (wanted to get it out of the way while still in college). So I'm afraid I can't say much that's useful except 1) take a lot of PTs, 2) study formal logic at some point so the concepts aren't totally new for LSAT study, and 3) read a lot of academic-le...

Apologies to all - I got nervous and simply sent it this morning. Intend to post everything, when all is said and done, in case it might be useful to people in similar situations.

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

You are all far too kind 😭

I've already drafted my LOCI as a coping mechanism. If anyone (especially someone familiar with NYU) would be willing to take a look and make sure it passes the sniff test, would very much appreciate it.

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

Rejected by Harvard on March 2nd; Waitlisted by WashU on March 5th (I withdrew; they emailed last week to advise that I probably wouldn't be getting admitted from the waitlist anyway) Waitlisted by UVA on March 16; Waitlisted by NYU a few hours ago. That's my 12th negative decision in a row. Columb...

Re: Do international students get Ruby’s?

From data and ABA reports it's clear UChicago has a bias against international students. But, as an international student got a Ruby? 6 posts · Why do you say they have a bias against international students? Empirically, UChicago accepts very few people with non-U.S./Canadian bachelor's degrees (th...

Re: duke, uva, cornell, or retake

also, assuming i want to gun for a named scholarship at a mid to low t14 (dillard, darrow, mordecai, etc) is there anything else i can do besides improving my lsat score? typically these scholarships have been thought about purely in numbers terms but this year they seem a little black box-y. Re: duke, uva, cornell, or retake

but realistically, if my score doesn't increase (or if there's a similarly competitive cycle next year), i guess i still took a year to work (perhaps as a paralegal) and gained perspective on the field . am i making sense here, or am i talking myself into another year of waiting? just got through d...

Hey, Baguette! [...] It's nice to hear from you! I've seen you on some of the other websites. Sadly I got waitlisted by Mich today so looks increasingly unlikely that we'll be classmates  but I'm glad at least there's some upside for splitters this year. Wild that we're both still waiting on a...

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

Email came from NYU an hour later, heart in my throat... HTE Feels like bad news, on balance, especially because I was so bullish about NYU going into this process (and it's probably tied for my top choice), but also a reminder that this year isn't over. I would re-apply, especially because that see...

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

Northwestern waitlist. Another decision which isn't too surprising in a vacuum, but I'm officially convinced I'm underperforming compared to the (thin) historical data for my numbers. I think I'm going to reread my apps in a month and see if anything went wrong. Maybe it's just a bad cycle.

UC Berkeley ding today. Leaves only Stanford in the quadfecta of GPA-picky schools so I'm hoping this is an inflection point :)

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

Those are great options and you’ll probably have some more out of the 10 outstanding apps. Honestly, though, when schools say they consider grades in context, it’s mostly a lie. The numbers are what they have to report for rankings purposes so they never don’t matter, and as a splitter your cycle w...

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

4 months in, which feels like a halfway point, and we're: Accepted: Vandy and Duke Waitlisted: Penn Rejected: Yale and Chicago Those first two decisions came in early December, and it's only been bad news ever since which is a tad demoralizing. The Chicago ding in particular upsets me because I thou...

For anyone reading this in the future: the above advice about colleagues being happy to write letters is 100% on point. I was lucky to have ...

Speeding Ticket Addendum?

*please do not quote* I have 3 speeding tickets: [snip] Three questions: 1) Is that incident responsive to questions that exclude "minor traffic violations"? I often see vanilla speeding listed as a standard example of a minor traffic violation but 28 over doesn't feel "minor" to me 2) If so, and fo...

GPA Addendum?

This is probably the fulcrum of my whole application package, and I can't stop obsessing over it. I'm simultaneously worried this is too long and also that it leaves unanswered questions, but without a stranger's perspective I'm not sure which questions. The second paragraph is meant to be responsiv...
