Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

Email came from NYU an hour later, heart in my throat... HTE Feels like bad news, on balance, especially because I was so bullish about NYU going into this process (and it's probably tied for my top choice), but also a reminder that this year isn't over. I would re-apply, especially because that see...

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

Northwestern waitlist. Another decision which isn't too surprising in a vacuum, but I'm officially convinced I'm underperforming compared to the (thin) historical data for my numbers. I think I'm going to reread my apps in a month and see if anything went wrong. Maybe it's just a bad cycle.

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

UC Berkeley ding today. Leaves only Stanford in the quadfecta of GPA-picky schools so I'm hoping this is an inflection point :)

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

Those are great options and you’ll probably have some more out of the 10 outstanding apps. Honestly, though, when schools say they consider grades in context, it’s mostly a lie. The numbers are what they have to report for rankings purposes so they never don’t matter, and as a splitter your cycle w...

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

4 months in, which feels like a halfway point, and we're: Accepted: Vandy and Duke Waitlisted: Penn Rejected: Yale and Chicago Those first two decisions came in early December, and it's only been bad news ever since which is a tad demoralizing. The Chicago ding in particular upsets me because I thou...

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

Hello everyone! Just submitted my apps today. I ended up not writing any Why X essays at all, although I tried to do optional essays for schools that had them. For anyone reading this in the future: the above advice about colleagues being happy to write letters is 100% on point. I was lucky to have ...

I’m a rising 3L and I don’t go to Michigan but I’ve been watching her videos and wishing I approached my application process differently.
How so? Curious what parts I should pay closest attention to.

Speeding Ticket Addendum?

*please do not quote* I have 3 speeding tickets: [snip] Three questions: 1) Is that incident responsive to questions that exclude "minor traffic violations"? I often see vanilla speeding listed as a standard example of a minor traffic violation but 28 over doesn't feel "minor" to me 2) If so, and fo...

GPA Addendum?

This is probably the fulcrum of my whole application package, and I can't stop obsessing over it. I'm simultaneously worried this is too long and also that it leaves unanswered questions, but without a stranger's perspective I'm not sure which questions. The second paragraph is meant to be responsiv...

Re: Yale 250

Thanks, pancakes and Nony! That all makes sense to me. Definitely worth tuning each word in this format.

Do you really think this topic has legs as a PS? I'd love to spill 500 or 600 words on this, but I'm not sure it says much about me as a person (except for being a massive nerd I guess)

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

What are your top two dream schools? I'd also add on a targeted rec there - it may not make a huge difference but it definitely won't hurt. And if your dream schools are HYS then your work is already done! I think your LSAT score and paralegal experience already make you a fantastic candidate for a...

Thank you all very much for the input! I think I understand the critique, and am going to rewrite a lot of this to work around those issues. The exciting thing about cutting is creating new room for new content!!

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

I now have a targeted rec for each of HYS; the H writer also offered to write a general professional rec. I picked these people mainly because I know them the best but I also have a couple of decent candidates (people I've worked closely with who like me) who are alumni of other schools. Would going...

Thanks!! By story, do you mean more a narrative "how I got here/here's where it all started" sort of thread? I've been resisting that sort of structure because it's so hard to fit into 2-3 pages.

Personal statement (I didn't go with D&D)

Would love to know what strangers think of this. At 515 words I think I need to bulk it up just a little bit. Please don't quote large portions. Thanks!

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

Thanks again to those who pushed me to ask for recs! He offered to write me a general one and a slightly modified one for his T14 alma mater. Goin...

Baguette Applies to Law School

Hi everyone, With my family, friends and TLS all unacceptable for various reasons, I have decided to blog about my application cycle in this thread. Hopefully it will be a useful resource to similarly-situated people down the line, but mainly I just need to put these thoughts somewhere. With that sa...
