Re: Unlocking 1L SAs

* At the time I wrote this, NALP was enforcing a December 1st application timeline. That is no longer in effect, but I will update when we better understand what that change means for those markets that act/move quickly. Anyone have an update on this? A few 1Ls at my school have reached out to me, ...

Re: Dropping Out and Reapplying

The placement difference is insignificant. I went through EIP at the same time as friends who were at HLS; it still came down to GPA/# of H's and P's, and law review/not law review. It's inconceivable that hiring standards are lower at HLS than for CCN that it makes a meaningful difference. Still of...

Re: Dropping Out and Reapplying

idk like if your lease is up and you need a car, and you really want the AMG model and can swing the added cost, but due to allocation/supply issues you can’t get one for maybe another year so you settle for the still very nice, less exciting model, I can see being a little bummed knowing that you ...

also i already dont want to write any more of my note. The Note requirement is absolute ASS. The only time I cried in law school was because 8 professors declined to be my Note advisor and I had like less than 72 hours to find one. we should ban all student notes, i hate mine my note is on a policy...

Re: Columbia 2019 EIP Bid List Advice/Discussion

Maybe this isn't worth asking until we hear about LR... but I ended up with a 3.6. I'm only interested in lit in NYC and LA (have ties). Where should I be focusing? Specifically, are the Gibson/PW/Cravath top tier biglaw lit firms reasonably attainable or still kind of a toss up? And are the super ...

Re: Columbia 2019 EIP Bid List Advice/Discussion

1. Aren’t all of our grades out? You really should check; you assume median but also believe that you’re not competitive for LA-you might be really competitive or totally SOL, but knowing whether you at least Stone’d or not is crucial. 2. Hopefully more bidding experts can join in, but looking over ...

Re: Law school in NYC- living expenses

New York is really really really fun. Yes, grad student housing is UAH; you'll have the option of prioritizing law school housing (which is I think only on 116th and 115th street super close to the law school, more expensive usually) or UAH (general grad housing, which I think spans 110th to 125th, ...

Everyone will tell you being a law student is terrible; it’s much, much, much less terrible being a law student in NYC.

Re: Law school in NYC- living expenses

1) Anyone living in graduate students housing (2br apt) can share how big their room is? Also does it make a big difference in rent to move in with 3 people instead? 2) if you live off campus is it hard to qualify for housing in NYC as a student with excellent credit score but no current income? Do...

Re: Columbia Law School Class of 2022 Applicants

I am willing to add as anecdotal data that they did not match my offers from peer schools. They did, however, get within 60k. Although their final offer was over 3x their initial offer, I am unwilling to call that large a difference between peers "close". Others might disagree.. I'm in the fortunat...

Re: Columbia Law School Class of 2022 Applicants

Does Columbia negotiate/ can anyone tell me which schools they'll consider competing offers from and whether or not they were matched or just increased? Yes. Can we have OP of the thread, this year or the next, write in that CLS negotiates? It's come up so much I think we'd benefit from having it i...

Admitted in January and likely attending CLS (waitlisted at H). I was reading through the companion thread on the old site and Jody Kraus came up as someone who gives an impossibly difficult, typo ridden MC contracts exam every year. Is this still the case/is he as awful as everyone says he is? Ver...

Re: Flexing HYS for $?

Yes, you can do this. Very tactfully; the last thing you want your email to sound like is "I got into HYS/more money from X school and will go there instead unless you throw some stacks at me." Try not to think of it as "flexing" your acceptances or bigger scholarships. Instead, try selling the idea...

Re: Columbia Students Taking Questions

I am matriculating this year after I deferred for a year. I had a couple of questions: 1) Is campus housing generally okay? I do not need anything fancy and being able to simply apply for conveniently-located housing rather than having to find housing on my own is appealing. That being said, if it ...

Re: Columbia Students Taking Questions

The admitted student's handbook said that July 15 is the earliest we can move into housing, why would anyone want that if classes don't start until August and is there an extra cost for moving in around that time? Maybe some people want a month+ to move in or do whatever. It's a personal thing and ...

Re: Columbia Law School Class of 2022 Applicants

How generous is Columbia’s financial aid package (butler/Hamilton) not included. I understand that financial need may be a consideration, just curious. Some schools have thee reputation of not giving out much money e.g. GT. How does Columbia compare? PM'd you with my experience getting aid from CLS...

I changed to UR2 but I haven't had a interview request. Is this a bad sign?
Not at all; it might be UR 1.5. I went UR2 with no interview request, then got one later, and eventually got in in the February wave. Don't lose hope!

Should we be concerned if we didn't get the first interview wave? I went UR1 around 10/9~10/14.
Last cycle I'm pretty sure I was UR1 around then, got an interview sometime in January and got my acceptance in February. Don't sweat not being in the first round!
