Re: Class of 2021: 2L 2 Furious

I have a Motion in Limine to write that I just can't bring myself to start typing (though I've at least started sketching out my argument). The professor just gave an extension of the deadline (from noon Friday to 5 PM Saturday), and I know I'm not going to touch it again until tomorrow night, at le...

Re: Class of 2021: 2L 2 Furious

Nah, every bit of work that's making this year hard is the result of my own choices. "2L they work you to death" is its own sort of lie - the reality is, 2L, you volunteer to be worked to death.

Re: Should I apply ED?

First of all, scrap t14. The t13 are a thing, but Vandy is better than GULC on the employment end of things. Would you rather have a decent scholarship at a school with placement comparable to GULC, or $300K of debt for an extra 10-15% chance? You may hear folks say "top 20" but there's no consensus...

Re: Should I apply ED?

Are you independently wealthy? Going to school on GI Bill funding? Convinced a marginal 5-10% better chance is worth 6 figures of extra debt? If so, sure apply ED. If not, maybe take a shot at Northwestern's ED, but skip any that don't have fat scholarships attached. If not, apply to the T19, though...

Re: 3.1, 172, veteran

With those splits, I'd throw an app at CCN on down, especially if you've got a compelling PS. Do you have government funding, or are you relying on scholarships/loans? The government funding would make an ED app to your favorite school worthwhile. I saw folks with similar LSATs and somewhat lower GP...

There are now six dates, with one in July. Starting to study after you graduate (you said that's in March, right?), with maybe a week or two off to recover from school, would be ideal if you can study full time.

Re: Any reason NOT to retake?

The only schools that even might average the two scores are Y/S, and those are black boxes. They feature faculty review of applicants, so the answer to your second question is a resounding Maybe. On the third, there is no reason for an addendum for a second take showing an improvement with both scor...

Re: Older 0L, ready to take plunge, have questions.

If you intend to hang a shingle, I would seriously be trying to minimize debt. Fortunately, a 3.8 will help with that. If you can bump that LSAT up past your 165 target, that will help even more. An early application could also help, so I might aim for taking the LSAT in the summer to get your apps ...

Is the PS just describing the work you did, or exploring your personal experiences while doing that work? The PS should be adding depth to your narrative. I'm not certain if it's doing that from your description.

Obviously, data for URMs, especially AAs, is sparse, so this is going to be less reliable than my usual analysis. Searching within one point of your LSAT score and .03 of your GPA, there are...a grand total of two AA applicants on LSN in the past four cycles. Both of them had amazing cycles, includi...

So, as a rising 2L I can't claim expertise, but I reapplied to a firm that rejected me for one of my school's regional interview programs through our OCI for a different office, and they extended an interview on the second try (with the same recruiter listed as the point of contact). I'd say the exp...

Re: Class of 2021: 2L 2 Furious

We take a total of at least 85 credits. First semester was 17 hours, second was 16, though we only got one hour's credit for legal research (vs. four for legal writing), and that fell in the second semester in spite of being spread across the whole year (and easily being as much work as another clas...

16 credits would be a huge load for us. After the heavy semesters of 1L, we only need to average 13 credits per semester to graduate (my four classes come to 14).

Re: Rising Junior w GPA 3.638

First of all, I believe you're looking at the median GPAs, so I have some good news for you - if you can do well enough on the LSAT, schools will dip below their median GPA to admit you (even in my cycle, which was tough for super-splitters like me, I knew people below a 3.0 getting into T13 schools...

Oh, yeah, if you're keeping the debt that low from savings instead of a scholarship, you're a good candidate to reapply with a stronger PS. Maybe see if the Spivey team can review it for you. First of all, Texas posted 57% biglaw + federal clerkships last year. That's a high water mark for them, but they're still averaging close to 50% with a positive trend. We tend to count the federal clerkships with the biglaw numbers because just about anyone who can get a federal clerkship could hav...

Re: GPA and UGPA

If you can keep your total LSAC GPA above a 3.5 and hit 170+ on the LSAT, you'd be an ordinary splitter at much of the t13. They take plenty of splitters. I got a 2/3 scholarship from W&L with a 173/2.52 (not a typo, also from NC State), with a couple t13 waitlists. Keep your grades up, nail the LSA...
