Re: Rising Junior w GPA 3.638

First of all, I believe you're looking at the median GPAs, so I have some good news for you - if you can do well enough on the LSAT, schools will dip below their median GPA to admit you (even in my cycle, which was tough for super-splitters like me, I knew people below a 3.0 getting into T13 schools...

Furious applications and the quest for interviews. One more week on the summer internship, then I head back to Lexington. How about you?

Hey guys! It's been ages since I logged in. (Work is slooooow today...) My school is on a quarterly system so I had my last final on June 14th and started my summer internship on June 17th. I'm finangling 13 weeks because money and just taking one week off before fall quarter starts in September. M...

Re: UTexas BL Chances

Oh, yeah, if you're keeping the debt that low from savings instead of a scholarship, you're a good candidate to reapply with a stronger PS. Maybe see if the Spivey team can review it for you. In the meantime, I'd ride out those waitlists, possibly up until the day classes start (if you've got that k...

Re: UTexas BL Chances

First of all, Texas posted 57% biglaw + federal clerkships last year. That's a high water mark for them, but they're still averaging close to 50% with a positive trend. We tend to count the federal clerkships with the biglaw numbers because just about anyone who can get a federal clerkship could hav...

Re: GPA and UGPA

If you can keep your total LSAC GPA above a 3.5 and hit 170+ on the LSAT, you'd be an ordinary splitter at much of the t13. They take plenty of splitters. I got a 2/3 scholarship from W&L with a 173/2.52 (not a typo, also from NC State), with a couple t13 waitlists. Keep your grades up, nail the LSA...

Re: Law Exam Essay

Well, ideally, you've talked to your professor ahead of time and learned what kind of structure they want to see (IRAC, CREAC, etc.). Some want a very narrative prose answer, some want very formulaic responses. You really need to know the professor to know how to approach their exam (I've yet to hav...

Reapplying to a firm for 2L summer

When reapplying to a firm that rejected you for 1L summer, should you acknowledge the previous application in your cover letter? Does it make any difference if the recruiter put a hand-written note of encouragement in the margins of the form letter?

NYU, along with Columbia, is hurt by its especially eye-watering cost of attendance - this is also doubtlessly helping UVA and Duke.
It seems to me it should also be helping Berkeley. Is the California bar exam doing so much harm to their FTLT BPR numbers as to wipe that out?

Re: When is the best date to apply by for non-OCI firms?

I'm applying to a lot of these as well, handsome haven't even opened their online portals for next summer yet. My school hasn't released journal decisions yet, either, so I doubt you're behind schedule for these applications yet. Aim to get them in as soon as you're ready and the firm will take them.

i actually think supplements are flame. the concepts aren't hard, and going over supplements is wheel spinning. but if you do get supplements, they're all more or less the same. you can even just go grab a barbri MBE bar prep book from a table for free and it'd be more or less the same thing. there...

Re: New ATL Rankings - UVA #1

I've had a little fun with the ATL rankings, and using the 2019, 2018, 2017, and 2015 data (the 2016 data on their site appears to be messed up), I ran a weighted average for the 35 schools that appear in all four years' rankings. I normalized each year's data, because the formula has changed and th...

Re: LSAC might restrict LSAT takes again

Frankly, it sounds reasonable. Its validity as a predictor was based on average scores, rather than best attempts, so limiting the number of attempts means more applicants applying with more representative scores. If that marginally brings down some reported means, so be it. Basically. I think peop...

Even better, they kept the point exchange such that I wouldn't have come out ahead by getting Amazon gift cards and ordering it there.

The positive outcomes are nearly equal between these schools. I'd probably go with Vandy, because I don't see $17K worth of advantages to GULC.

Anecdotally, none of my 1L professors holds a degree from HYS. I had one prof from Chicago, one with a couple of advanced degrees from Columbia, two Duke JDs who held LLMs, another Duke JD, an extremely well-published Akron JD, a South Carolina JD who was a clinical professor helping on the doctrina...

Let's talk about means and curves

So, there's a lot of reference made to the curved nature of law school classes, but before I went, I really didn't understand exactly how it would work (I had visions of a normal distribution around either a B or C). Some schools, I reckon, do a forced distribution. Some schools (my own included) do...

Re: UIllinois or UConn?

If you're forcing yourself to choose between these two schools, UIUC. But I find myself wondering why retake/reapply isn't on the table. Illinois is a fine school, and has good job placement for its ranking, but given that these options don't reflect a super splitter strategy, I'm guessing you're so...

Re: Older applicant....PhD in another field

First off, "top 10" isn't the meaningful distinction among law programs. Realistically, if you're looking for that level of distinction, you want to look at the top 13 (usually called T13, traditionally it was T14, but there's some debate about whether Georgetown really belongs in the conversation w...

Hey guys, do you happen to know which T14 has the lowest COL? Michigan Thanks mate appreciate it! But also be aware that this is not the same as the answer to "Which t13 has the lowest Cost of Attendance?" For that, the answer is, surprisingly, Berkeley. It's cheaper to attend Berkeley out of state...

Yeah, this journal comp is rough. "Five pages" doesn't sound like a lot until you realize that the footnotes will be longer than the discussion.

Re: WUSTL ($$) v. GULC (sticker)

To echo Dog, what other options did you have? Did you apply somewhere a bit down the list in your region of choice and get a high offer out of them? With that little support out of WashU, I'd be tempted to say GULC and count on their LRAP (if you're 100% committed to PI), but I still would rather se...
