Re: WUSTL (full tuition) vs Vanderbilt $$ vs UCLA $$ vs Georgetown

Not entirely sure where I would like to end up, generally I would like to practice in a major market/big city (I am not excited about the prospect of living in saint louis, but would be happy to end up in chicago from WUSTL). I have biglaw or boutique/mid sized patent firm goals, but I do plan to a...

Re: WUSTL (full tuition) vs Vanderbilt $$ vs UCLA $$ vs Georgetown

First, figure out your cost of attendance at each school using this tool: https://www.lawschool.life/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=987 Next, look at the employment numbers out of these schools. Are you looking to make biglaw? Keep in mind that of the schools you've listed, only two (Vanderbilt and Geor...

Re: UChicago Ruby vs. Harvard vs. Columbia Hamilton vs. USC Rothman

You're not a creature of New York City, so dump Columbia from this list - the Hamilton is going to give you a bigger debt load than the Ruby for no better an education and certainly no better opportunities. Now dump HLS. No matter what that prestige looks like, zero (or close to it) debt will mean m...

Re: UPDATED NYU $$$$ vs Penn $$$$ vs UVA $$$$ vs Duke $$$$ vs Harvard at Sticker

Fit is important in that law school will be rough, and if your environment is stressing you out, your grades will likely suffer. NYU is hands down the best option for your goals, but if you would be miserable just living in NY, don't go there. I guess I'm wondering - Let's say I have a preference f...

Re: Weighing Scholarship vs ranking

I guess I'll join in on this. OP, there are a lot of things to consider here, but I'll start by saying that the link UVA gave you to Law School Transparency it the beginning of your access to the truly important information for making this decision. The USNWR rankings are, to a very large degree, bu...

Re: Which would you choose?

I should have read this before responding to 1515, but I agree with you entirely. Is how much more NYU is worth for its increased PI opportunities entirely subjective or is there a consensus that one of my other options would make more sense after a certain threshold? I don't plan on getting marrie...

Re: Which would you choose?

NYU on up will be able to place you geographically where you want, and I believe that maybe Michigan and UVA can as well (other people would know better). I think I would respond to why not Duke and Northwestern with a broader point: the rankings already incorporate a lot of information. Yes, they ...

Yeah, I would have expected at least one other solid option with those numbers. Still, UVA is awesome, and there's still a chance one of the other three comes through with an offer.

No, they are both full tuition with no stipends and no aid drop offs . I'm actually unfamiliar with that site. I just calculated a rough estimate of 3k/mo rent in NYC and 1k/mo rent for Charlottesville and multiplied by 36 mo for the 3 years. I can't just account for the school year since my partne...

Re: Which would you choose?

Does your UVA full ride include a stipend? I'm having trouble figuring out how you're calculating that much of a difference in COA between the two full rides. https://www.lstreports.com/schools/uva/costs/ shows $78,455 for debt-financed CoL at UVA, while https://www.lstreports.com/schools/nyu/costs/...

Tsuga- thank you! I'm actually leaning NYU with UVA as a close 2nd. I'll be visiting both soon. Hoping that clears it up. Re: Which would you choose?

Wow, congrats! I think NYU and UVA are your best options. NYU is not as much of a DC/CA feeder as Mich/Duke/UVA, but the biggest prestige-PI feeder among your options and obviously a huge NY-feeder. UVA is your biggest DC feeder and biggest fed-gov feeder. Assuming you like the two schools equally,...

Re: Duke it out: Duke $$$$ vs. Virginia $$$$ vs. Penn $$$$ vs. H

Duke represents the balance of community styles between the big city in Philly and a lovely semi-remote college town in Charlottesville. Durham is fairly pedestrian and bike friendly, but doesn't quite have big city public transit (you can get around on it, but don't plan to do so quickly, especiall...

Re: Duke it out: Duke $$$$ vs. Virginia $$$$ vs. Penn $$$$ vs. H

From business insider, those graduating with the highest paying job, PENN #2, behind Columbia. Duke #6, UVA #10. (In 2016, Penn was #1.) LST can fill you in on other categories. Not sure if UVA continues its practice of SFJ, which dramatically inflates their employment stats. If so, it’s impossible...

Re: Duke it out: Duke $$$$ vs. Virginia $$$$ vs. Penn $$$$ vs. H

In most strategic areas, Penn reigns over Duke and Vir. It gets tighter for Penn when they are compared to Columbia, Chicago and NYU. You're gonna need to back that up. The only area Penn routinely leads UVA and Duke in is USNWR, which falls somewhere between an interesting diversion and pure bunk....

The 8-ball speaks. Looks like I was 27 places off in total. W&L really tanked me 😦 Indeed, W&L tanked anyone who selected it. I've scored the entries, though I need to double-check one to see if I missed an error in the submission when I transcribed it to my score sheet. If these standings hold, we...
