Just accept the offer and keep looking and renege if something better comes along.

Re: WUSTL Students and Grads Taking Questions

Bumping this thread. Is the general sentiment still the same? (that median students at WashU shouldn't feel comfortable getting biglaw in a place like Texas) I would say so. The issue with Texas is most firms don't come to Wash U's OCI so you have to direct apply, which means your resume has to sta...

Re: LEGAL SALARY DATAPOINTS

There’s also a lot of great benefits: good health insurance, 401k match, reimbursements many biglaw firms don’t offer (like reimbursement for your home internet), some companies will put money in your HSA each year, free food, etc. I have spent a ridiculous amount of my take home this year on health...

Re: As you start Bar Prep -- Be sure to have other (non-study) things to do

Another tip: don’t take on any big tasks during bar prep, IMHO. If you smoke, don’t try to quit smoking during bar prep. For example. Don't plan a wedding or anything like that either. I was beyond exhausted by the end of bar prep, and I took it pretty easy the first 5 weeks or so and then crammed ...

Re: CS career megathread / AMA

Hi! Kind of a strange question, but I have a quick question about pivoting from a career *in* tech to a career in law school. I was really lucky and able to net roughly 400K+ this year in tech and am having a few second thoughts about whether a legal career is appropriate, primarily because I work ...

Re: Employment Statistics by School - C/O 2020 rolling out + C/O 2012-2019 data

I did notice that my class (2020) seemed to have a large number of federal clerkships. I only personally knew two people still unemployed pre-Covid (so like March 2020) and both were at the bottom of the class (so I’d heard).

Georgetown - 61.6% (+5.8%) WUSTL - 57.4% (+5.1%) Georgia - 29.7% (-3.5%) Illinois - 30.9% (-9.0%) Wash U has been showing significant improvement the past few years. Wonder why. Dean Clifford's strategy of "throw money at everyone" has attracted a corps of solid students, I think. But honestly, I d...

UVA for $110k is an excellent outcome (and I say this as someone who was EXTREMELY debt averse when choosing a law school). Congrats!

Re: So you think you want BigLaw?

How achievable is an in-house gig straight out of school? Biglaw sounds awful. it's doable but i don't think you're likely to get an in-house job with a good career trajectory straight out of law school. biglaw isn't that bad in secondary markets. I’m in Texas and can attest that, at least as a jun...

Re: duke, uva, cornell, or retake

Would probably go to Duke. But UVA is cool too. Don't mean to press (and feel free to ignore this), but could you provide a basis for this judgment? It’s the same cost of attendance for you, and they’re basically interchangeable schools in my experience. My friends at Duke all had a great time in l...

Re: Long Hours

Yeah, the unpredictability is what makes the job hard. You can't really say to yourself "I'm going to do all of this work by 4 pm tomorrow so I have my evening free to do X and Y." For example, I finished up a bunch of stuff at 4:30ish yesterday, but I got asked to do something again at 6:30 that at...

You will be paid the same regardless of which one you choose, so just go where you feel is a better “fit” and where you liked the people.

Re: 3.4/161/ LGBT-URM Chances at Duke Law

I echo what others have said. The fact that you took the LSAT cold is further evidence that you should retake. A 161 is a pretty good score if you didn’t study. You could probably get to at least a 165 with just a few weeks of study, and you could almost certainly get a 170 if you’re willing to put ...

For clarity, I wasn’t saying he could or should actually write off the time. I meant spend additional time on something if needed. Don’t do this. That’s a quick way to get moved off cases if you’re working for more budget-conscious clients. My teams stop giving work to first years who pull that cra...
