Re: 2 weeks in - barely billing anything

For clarity, I wasn’t saying he could or should actually write off the time. I meant spend additional time on something if needed. Don’t do this. That’s a quick way to get moved off cases if you’re working for more budget-conscious clients. My teams stop giving work to first years who pull that cra...

Re: Bvest's MPT Guide

Washington State MPT Grading Rubric: Score of 6 A 6 answer is a very good answer. A 6 answer indicates that the applicant has a thorough comprehension of the task, the relevant factual and legal materials, and uses them to write a legally supported, well-written responsive product in the time allot...

Re: What are the best "canned brief" sources?

^ agreed with the above.

I found canned briefs more helpful for 2L/3L because I was often too lazy to do the reading and wanted to be able to get through a cold call if necessary. I wouldn’t really recommend them for 1L.

Re: GPA Addendum?

So, I think for an addendum (which is what this would be), you would want it shorter and more to the point. I think the second two paragraphs are fine, but I think the first paragraph is too much detail. It's well-written and affecting so I don't think it would hurt, necessarily, but my understandi...

Re: Firms to target for 1L SA?

Some of the non TX-based firms in Houston and Dallas also hire a decent chunk of 1Ls: Locke Lord, Akin Gump, Sidley, Jones Day. Pretty sure Latham and Kirkland still only hire 2Ls, but that may have changed since I applied. Just look up all the firms in Houston and Dallas and check their NALP pages ...

Re: Baguette Applies to Law School

Whether you write your personal statement on the family tragedy probably depends in part on what it was and what you would write about. I mentioned suddenly losing my dad in my personal statement but it wasn't the only thing that I wrote about. One reason is that while losing a parent is very tragic...

Re: Harvard Law admit considering deferral option

I wouldn’t defer unless you actually have something productive to do with your time. Do you already have a career? I deferred, and it was a complete waste of time. I wouldn’t go as far as to say I regret it, but I certainly would not recommend spending a year fucking around at a job that makes 30k/y...

Re: TTT--Is my life over?

What are you hoping to get out of law school? Going into debt for a meh school with abysmal employment outcomes does not seem like a good idea if your goal is simply to fill the time between retirement and death.

What are your goals? What was your career before you quit your job?

I'd probably say just don't go to law school. Find something else to do.

If your parents are footing the bill, retake and go to a better school (I mean you should do this anyway but don’t have them pay for one of these, may as well get a more portable degree)

Critical pass flashcards from 2017?

Probably overthinking this, but I have a friend willing to sell me critical pass flashcards for the MBE for $25. They’re from 2017, though. Are these okay to use or have there been major changes in relevant areas of law/to the MBE since then?

What is your undergrad degree in? If you really do have the numbers and your undergrad degree is unlikely to lead to any type of employment at all right now (I mean, restaurants aren't even hiring), I might consider applying to a couple places and seeing if you get a full ride or something. It might...

Definitely agree it’s dumb to renege if it’s just a perceived prestige thing but if it’s a major salary, location or career trajectory difference you have to do it totally agree with this and will just add that at the end of the day, it's your career. you have to do what's best for you. if the othe...

Re: Law Clerk at Two Jobs at Once?

That's fine if you want to try to do both jobs at once, but you ABSOLUTELY need to disclose it to both employers. +1 Also, you might not really care about the morality of what you're trying to do, but if you get caught, you're going to be in serious trouble. You could get fired, and then you'd prob...

Which bar exam should I take?

I graduate in May 2020 and will be working at a firm in Texas. I just found out that while Texas is not offering the UBE until February of 2021, they will begin to accept UBE scores in December 2019. As such, I could take the bar in July 2020 in a UBE state and transfer my score to Texas. I can subm...
