Re: Berkeley BigLaw/Tech Law w/ out STEM background

Thanks everyone, this is very helpful. Yes, I was basically wondering if it was a good idea to try to do some kind of tech law in order to capitalize on Berkeley's strength there, and, if the answer to that were "no" (as it seems to be), whether Berkeley is still a good choice for a generalist bigla...

Re: Berkley BigLaw/Tech Law w/ out STEM background

I can't speak to the "tech law" question (idk what tech law means but my understanding is that the patent bar requires a STEM degree). But if you want to practice in California I don't think there's much question Berkeley makes more sense than UVA at the same price point. Yea, so patent prosecution...

Berkeley BigLaw/Tech Law w/ out STEM background

Hi all Mid-cycle, no money offers yet, currently admitted to UVA and Berkeley which are basically my top choices anyway. Wanted to ask for any additional insight/info anyone could provide about Berkeley biglaw outcomes. I was looking at the sticky thread (https://www.lawschool.life/forums/viewtopic....

Re: PS, re-apply

OK, managed to re-write my old PS. I thought my overall goals (explain the personal shift from history to law, highlight similarities between the skills used in both) should stay the same, so it's very much an attempt to totally re-write the same basic material. I would love feedback. I actually lik...

Re: PS, re-apply

OK, this was the "general" PS, which I sometimes tailored/expanded a bit for individual schools and sometimes didn't. FWIW, my best result came on this "base" version, though I did some supplemental essays for that school as well.

Thanks in advance

Re: PS, re-apply

Just post it right here? There's no downside? Like, I dunno, admins people trawling here and seeing us getting feedback or IDing us? Now that I type it out doesn't seem very likely, but . . . ?

Re: how law school affects geographic location for afterwards

OK, re-applying. Didn't re-take, maybe should have, oh well.

Made a new thread asking for PS advice here: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=13798

thanks again everyone

PS, re-apply

Hi all, So I'm reapplying and I wanted some feedback on my PS. I'm reapplying because I think I can do better if I go earlier in the cycle, but also because my spouse's job situation was very uncertain during the decision period this year, even before covid blew up everything. I'm leaving behind a c...

Re: how law school affects geographic location for afterwards

OK, that's more or less what I thought--it's the T14, basically, where the school itself offers national portability? This sort of gets into another area. I ended up applying at basically the end of the cycle--mid February and in a few cases later--which is why (I tell myself) I under-performed my s...

Re: how law school affects geographic location for afterwards

Yea, thanks a lot everyone.

What kinds of lawyer jobs would have the greatest geographical range? Like I said I'm pretty open right now on what I might want to do, so what careers would offer wider portability, if any, if that makes sense?

Re: how law school affects geographic location for afterwards

Thanks a lot. Using the schools' CoA estimators after scholarship I looks like Vandy would cost about $15k more (not sure about how the health insurance would play into this though). I'm pretty open in terms of what I might want to do (is that bad?). To the extent I have a preference right now I'm t...

how law school affects geographic location for afterwards

I've heard some conflicting things and am just struggling with how to really approach this question. I'm from the South originally, but I've lived all over the country. The big wrinkle is that it's hard to predict where my wife's career track will take her. So I'm just trying to get a handle on how ...

Re: career in financial/business fraud or antitrust

Thanks a ton for all the advice/feedback. I'd prefer not to take the LSAT again, but I guess it's not off the table. Similarly I'll apply this cycle but depending on what comes back waiting and applying again in the fall is an option. I guess I thought those numbers (obviously depending on what the ...

career in financial/business fraud or antitrust

Hi all, I wanted to ask how viable a career in investigating/prosecuting fraud/antitrust/other kinds of white collar crime would be, especially if I wasn't willing to move to DC and work for the federal government, and, if it were viable, how I should go about preparing for that career and how I sho...
