Idk about that. Cardozo has half the numbers of GW now. It’s also not really a respected PI school (you might as well go to CUNY). So it’s just so strange to me that people continue to pay to go there

I'm not really sure if we have any active posters in that type of legal aid. What kind of work will you be doing?

My top choice just offered to host me!!! Freaking out, though also not sure how excited to be because I don't know how difficult it is to get the Columbia fellowship. I've been told it's not a guarantee, but I don't know if that's just something the career office says to cover their asses. it's a g...

Re: Has Covid-19 impacted PI/Gov hiring or am I just a loser?

Congrats! Project based fellowships are very common and differ a lot from org to org. It really depends what kind of org they are. The SJI people should have some pretty solid examples for you and give you feedback on what you draft. I think this resource (which is pretty old), gives you a general ...

Re: Has Covid-19 impacted PI/Gov hiring or am I just a loser?

Okay let me start off with you're 100% not a loser. COVID-19 has decimated PI hiring in NYC. This year will probably be the worst year in recent memory for PI hiring in NYC. The state and city budgets have hamstrung PI organizations and everyone is competing for limited grant money. The 350 billion ...

Re: Clerking's killed my interest in practicing law

In addition to everything Nony has said, I would also suggest looking at public interest jobs that work with clients/same population as public defenders, but are non-litigation oriented. The jobs can be "hard to find," and usually pay is shit, but if it's what you enjoy then it's definitely a good o...

Re: "Why did you do a big law internship your 2L summer?""

I do think the non-profit world can be really classist (more so than government) and be filled with a lot of very privileged people, which helps perpetuate and/or get people who can handle the low salaries in the field. And that’s not a good thing. That said, though, you can also usually get loans ...

Re: "Why did you do a big law internship your 2L summer?""

I mean it totally depends what you're interview for. I don't think its outrageous to say that you didnt know much about law school/law jobs going into law school and you had to make a decision about 2L summer at just the end of your first year, so you tried finding work you enjoyed at a firm. You re...

Re: PSA: Do Not Pay Full Price for a Bar Course (NEGOTIATE!)

Similarly, Kaplan had a buy one get one free type deal. If one person pays for a course, a friend pursuing a PI job can get the course for free. Kaplan would initially insist that the first person pay full price, but that was also eventually negotiable. anyone have any information on this? ugg/JD t...

Re: Criminal Defense

Generally speaking, How much do you make per year as a private solo or small firm crim defense attorney? Really depends on market and experience. I live in a large metro area so there is a lot of competition. The most experienced lawyers who practice only criminal defense can take on high level fel...

it's a weird hypo because usually there are more questions. but the simple answer is: you dont say anything. based on the follow-up questions on this hypo you might be asked if that violates ethics in terms of candor to court you say "no, because i dont have any idea who my new client actually is, h...

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

This is sort of a dumb question, but what would be the best vehicle for saving for a payment 20-25 years down the road that’s not a retirement fund? If I had to pay off the total of my loans I’d rather just pay the first 10 years and be done than stretch it out for 20-25, but that’s obviously a sub...

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

I mean you don't need 120 consecutive qualifying payments. Sounds like you had 30. you can return and get the other 90 at a later point in time and qualify. otherwise. assuming you were in an IBR plan and your debt negatively amortized, you can either now pay more than you would have to pay it all o...

idk where you’re working but you said very large so if it’s LAS— they discretely posted hiring for 2021 a few days ago. You should apply ASAP regardless of the org. In either event, you should be applying NOW for project based fellowships in housing with your org. Funding is a big ? next year and th...

god I fucking hate Kavanaugh It also rewrites history. Seneca Falls was not Stonewall. The women’s rights movement was not (and is not) the gay rights movement, although many people obviously support or participate in both. So to think that sexual orientation discrimination is just a form of sex dis...

I'm generally team don't defer/don't always retake, but depending on what you might be able to do -- I think it makes a good amount of sense to defer, especially depending on your goals. If it's just biglaw then I guess it's a wash. But, if you want to clerk (how will you manage to develop any relat...
