Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

This is sort of a dumb question, but what would be the best vehicle for saving for a payment 20-25 years down the road that’s not a retirement fund? If I had to pay off the total of my loans I’d rather just pay the first 10 years and be done than stretch it out for 20-25, but that’s obviously a sub...

Re: LRAP/IBR/PSLF. How does it work? Let's find out!

I mean you don't need 120 consecutive qualifying payments. Sounds like you had 30. you can return and get the other 90 at a later point in time and qualify. otherwise. assuming you were in an IBR plan and your debt negatively amortized, you can either now pay more than you would have to pay it all o...

idk where you’re working but you said very large so if it’s LAS— they discretely posted hiring for 2021 a few days ago. You should apply ASAP regardless of the org. In either event, you should be applying NOW for project based fellowships in housing with your org. Funding is a big ? next year and th...

Re: SCOTUS and Other Big Cases

god I fucking hate Kavanaugh It also rewrites history. Seneca Falls was not Stonewall. The women’s rights movement was not (and is not) the gay rights movement, although many people obviously support or participate in both. So to think that sexual orientation discrimination is just a form of sex dis...

Kavanaugh's separate dissent is a joke-- "I agree with Alito but won't join that opinion because his homophobia is a little more overt than I want to be associated with"

Re: Harvard Law admit considering deferral option

I'm generally team don't defer/don't always retake, but depending on what you might be able to do -- I think it makes a good amount of sense to defer, especially depending on your goals. If it's just biglaw then I guess it's a wash. But, if you want to clerk (how will you manage to develop any relat...

There was a crowd of people standing directly next to the police van when they threw it, including uniformed officers. Are you endorsing chucking M...

Re: Notes During Bar Prep

So I did Kaplan because it was free. I did two things beyond the course and felt they were the most helpful: (1) Adaptibar, which was important when it came to memorizing MBE rules (2) I hated Kaplan's essay prep. So I bulleted/outlined every single MEE essay in the last decade. NCBE has these answe...

Re: Notes During Bar Prep

Are you doing a UBE? I went way over board but made my own outlines for all the possible essay topics and made flow charts of pretty much everything that you could make a chart out of. It was overkill, but the only way I learned to write the essays. I had Kaplan and just didn't find the material to ...

Re: Defer Summer Internship Until Fall?

I mean, one would think? But their email isn't really worded that way. It basically just says that if they don't get enough volunteers to defer they're gonna have to start cutting internships. I suppose maybe that means if they came to you and said your internship was going to be cancelled, you cou...

Re: Defer Summer Internship Until Fall?

If you're on the chopping block won't they give you the option then to defer? I guess it really comes down to what your other summer options might be. Are you still at/near your law school? If so, if your law school has a crim defense clinic you should reach out to see if you can do your 2L summer t...

Re: SCOTUS and Other Big Cases

100% Gorsuch and kav are voting to overturn roe in the upcoming abortion decisions. Kav has that weird casey/roe footnote in his concurrence. they've basically given a roadmap to justify overturning roe. my guess is that's why kagan voted with the dissenters

Who decides to fire an associate in biglaw?

Are partners all on one large slack channel shit talking associates and then voting to fire/ask to leave underperforming associates? If associates work with so many partners who actually makes that decision?

As nony says, old boys clubs of the corporate predominantly white/male/rich world is very different from the world of indigent defense. The bolded part of my comment is referring to: https://blackvoicenews.com/2010/01/21/whites-calling-blacks-by-first-names/ Of course not every public defender is wh...

Question: the etiquette of addressing clients. Both PD offices I have interned at have an official policy of always addressing a client as "Mr. X" or "Mrs. Y" or "Ms. Z." In person, in writing, and over the phone. I find this to be somewhat socially awkward and running against my down to earth natu...

Re: SCOTUS and Other Big Cases

I can't believe (tho I can) that Thomas wrote this, and even Gorsuch thought it was too much and didn't join this part: In sum, as other Members of this Court have recognized, Batson charted the course for eliminating peremptory strikes. See, e.g., Rice v. Collins, 546 U. S. 333, 344 (2006) (BREYER,...

Re: Public Interest Megathread for T14s (employment data, resources, testimonials)

It's a hard question to answer. The only ideal path is trying to get a Skadden fellowship and getting your foot in the door. If not, then two years clerking for district court and COA and then trying to go straight to impact lit is common, but you may end up at a firm for a bit. Sure there's a ton ...
