Re: Top 25 at S how much does no law review matter

Class of 2014 grad currently in a COA clerkship. I worked one year in big law and then spent two years clerking at a district court. What class year is realistic to push for with firms? Uhhhh are you a spammer? Your other post was about your personal statement, which does not line up with anything ...

Re: Below median at a t14

Uva2B compiled a lot of info on 1L summer biglaw positions so maybe he can speak to that. I think you're getting ahead of yourself regarding the second question. You are starting a whole new semester and a whole new chance to get up to median. Try not to focus on the negative implications of your qu...

Re: Non bar-passage jobs

I see. I think it would be hard to establish consensus for non JD jobs. I don't know if the consulting world is so uniform that they all abide by some McKinsey standard.

Re: Non bar-passage jobs

Confused by your question. If they don't require a JD, then they necessarily would not require bar admission.

For the first job title in your list ("counsel"), that would probably mean providing legal advice/services, which necessarily requires bar admission.

Re: HLS Orientation Schedule?

Bumping for you, but I'm sure some Harvard 1Ls are busy at the moment. Is orientation really going to be your deciding factor? You'll get a schedule of your own in due time. Definitely not the deciding factor--waiting on some other stuff--but most of the other schools have their Orientation schedul...

Re: What's going on with UC Hastings?

You have two questions: (1) is something wrong with the school and (2) what are your expected outcomes based on your stats. (1) I can't answer very well. But I'll ask a recent Hastings grad and follow up, since I'm curious too. (2) - this is very simplified advice but I want to make sure you're look...

Re: Beard during CB?

Just FYI, if you’re a black male (or any other person with very fine, curly hair), you should shave with an electric razor (like the Andis T-outliner) instead of a traditional razor that cuts hair beneath the skin. You will get almost zero razor bumps. The razor bumps come from the hair curling bac...

Re: C&F Lawyers

It's not an "exam," it's a review of your answers and a background check, and, if warranted, an investigation by investigators employed your state's bar (or whichever authority handles admissions). Each state bar takes varying levels of efforts for the baseline background check for each applicant. S...

Re: C&F Lawyers

Unsealing a record is only a small part of what you need help with here. I mean, yes, but frankly I’d be surprised if - once OP gets their records - this kind of history would be any significant problem for the bar. I agree it's probably not, but I'm always hesitant to say that to folks on here bec...

Re: C&F Lawyers

Yes, and some of your professors might also know people. It's true C&F lawyers don't grow on trees but you're better off with a lawyer who deals with the bar a lot (i.e. representing attorneys being disciplined) rather than a regular criminal defense attorney who simply doesn't know how to handle th...

I think that's fine. Don't give yourself razor burn. I was worried you had something longer and unkempt going on.

Re: Beard during CB?

What kind of beard are we talking about? Find a celebrity picture example and show us, if you'd like. I think anything with real length probably is a no-go. Trim it as short as you can get it without causing skin problems. I can only think of one guy I know in biglaw with a beard and I'm not sure if...

Re: C&F Lawyers

1) get a c&f lawyer. Why would you settle for someone who doesn't have experience representing people in proceedings before the bar? 2) maybe? Depends on what your state offers. This isn't something public defenders help with, and it's not necessarily something your average civil legal aid organizat...

This isn't really PNW specific, but I think that the federal government tends to be less interested in ties, but local government will likely be more interested (and getting a local government job is more dependent on networking, ideally by being there, so I think Dog's suggestion about being a vis...

Re: Pacific Northwest Law Schools

Government hiring is more open, but by not being physically in the PNW, you limit your ability to network as much with the people doing that hiring, or maybe externing with them during the school year. You may want to be a visiting student during 3L year at UW.

It's about 7 a.m. and I've already gotten "Good luck! I know you passed!" texts from people. That's the worst part. I can deal with the personal failure, but having to tell people (again) that I failed is like being paraded naked down the street, while the villagers chant "Shame. Shame. Shame." Nob...

+1 to all the above, and also your addendum content is particularly unpersuasive. What you learned in middle school and high school has zero bearing on what law school admissions committees are evaluating. If they wanted your high school transcript, they'd ask for it.
