Re: Those with an LLM or Wanting an LLM

I would think the most popular LLM programs would be those designed for international students with prior legal education in their home countries coming to the US who want to sit for the bar exam without getting a JD. (NY and Washington State allow this.) After that, tax seems to be the second most ...

Re: UIllinois or UConn?

Yeah, +1 to stranger. I feel like this decision is being made under time pressure that wouldn't have been necessary if there were discussion about your application strategy earlier. If you're not wild about your options, go ahead and put a deposit down if it makes you feel better, but let's discuss ...

Re: UIllinois or UConn?

Cost is $8,500 per year to UConn and $13,000 to Illinois. Housing at Illinois would likely add another $8,000 a year to the estimated cost. However, I would likely be <$80,000 in debt from either school. Also, I would probably make more $ in Chicago than in CT. What do you think? Are these already ...

Re: Older applicant....PhD in another field

I'm not worried about you getting into law school. Your GPAs are solid and I'm assuming, if you apply yourself and do ample test prep, you can get a good LSAT score north of 165 to get you to a T14, or maybe a T20 school with more scholarships. Your rationale right now reads more like defenses about...

Hey guys, do you happen to know which T14 has the lowest COL?
No but you could try looking at Law School Transparency, or just looking up the living cost formulas on each school's financial aid page. Shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes.

Re: Considering Dropping Out

How do schools look at re-applicants typically? Will my 1L fall semester GPA matter? Yes, it will matter. If you are doing very poorly and have a low GPA (putting aside class ranking), they will make the inference that you might not be able to handle the workload or that law school isn't a good fit...

You want to do public interest in Chicago. Illinois seems like a no brainer to me. Theoretically, yes. However, I specifically want to do public interest immigration law. After visiting Illinois, researching their relevant course/clinical offerings, and looking into externship options, I don't thin...

Re: WUSTL ($$) v. GULC (sticker)

I don’t think this is true for niche PI. If you are looking for something specific in PI, a school or professor’s connections into that field will be incredibly valuable. I don’t know what that means for these schools, but if any of them has a professor with close connections to the PI immigration ...

Re: CLS vs GULC for international law

Thanks. No, Columbia is not worth $280,000. That's a massive debt load. $180k will be uncomfortable to pay off as it is, even with biglaw salary. $280k will be extremely uncomfortable and extremely detrimental to your credit and your ability to live your life. You allude to an "unusual background," ...

Sorry if this is presumptuous and you’ve already given this thought, but have you considered what might happen if you turn out to hate biglaw, or discover that the “prestige” is actually hollow and unfulfilling? Because that’s a way more common story than you might expect from the other side. It so...

Hey everyone, I retook the LSAT and unfortunately did 1 point worse. I was averaging around a 169-170 on PTs so I still think I'm leaving points on the table. Will it hurt me to take the test a third time if my goal is T6? I don't think it will hurt. Just make sure to fully analyze what caused your...

Re: Should I delay law school for 2 years for a pension?

I would absolutely wait; there’s very little downside to delaying law school, especially in a case like this one. Mind sharing why you want to switch from a high-benefits government job to the biglaw grind? Do you dislike your work that much? I don't dislike my job at all. I am a manager here and p...

There are a lot of patent law opportunities in California, too. I don't see anything extra special about DC that would make it more worthwhile at that price.
