Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

I did zero journals in law school and it’s probably the best decision I made. Take a PLAP case instead.

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

Probably even if it's just a genuine interest, not just gunning. Also probably better luck with less famous professors.

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

I never had anybody care at all about attendance. In fact, the only class I ever DSed was one where I missed 90% of the classes.

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

When I was in LRW a couple of years ago I only got (minimal) feedback on my draft. The only feedback I got on the final was the grade when 1L fall grades were released.

Re: Money v Name... UF, Chi, and NYU

Hi guys! UF with a full ride plus a stipend to pay my rent, I do want to practice corporate law leaning towards intellectual property. These two sentences don't really go together. If your goal is corporate law (which I assume means biglaw), then know that only 16.3% of the class gets biglaw, and u...

Re: Harvard Students and Grads Taking Questions

Does anyone know if you get notified when a grade for an upper level course gets posted? Or should I just keep periodically checking helios lol I don't think any are coming out until Friday at the earliest. That's when 3L grades should get released, and you're not getting grades before graduating 3...

Re: UIllinois or UConn?

People on here are always skeptical that the applicant knows what they're doing when they're considering non T14s that place into totally different markets. Law school isn't undergrad. For the most part, US News ranking on its own is less important than the schools placement into the market that the...

Re: UChicago Ruby vs. Harvard vs. Columbia Hamilton vs. USC Rothman

FWIW, we just had our debt exit interviews at Harvard, and the green faces were pretty grim. Sometimes you don’t understand how much debt it actually is until you’re looking at paying 3000-4000 a month for the next decade or so. Harvard is marginally better than Chicago. All things being equal, you ...

Re: Weighing Scholarship vs ranking

You're right that you shouldn't look at specialties like environmental law or whatever. However, biglaw is super sensitive to school and grades. Conventional wisdom is don't do stipulations because even if the school doesn't section stack it's still a huge risk. And you don't HAVE to go to one of th...

Re: Weighing Scholarship vs ranking

Law school is not like undergrad. After the top few national schools they all become regional, so it doesn't make sense to compare rankings for schools in different markets.

Re: Weighing Scholarship vs ranking

You understand that we're lawyers and law students who think that you're making this decision in a fundamentally flawed way?

For your specific goals, your options are not great. So either get different goals or different options.

Re: Weighing Scholarship vs ranking

Career wise I want to make sure I have the option of BigLaw when picking the school. What does "having the option of biglaw" mean to you? Is it a chance if you're at the top of your class? If we're just assuming that, then go to wherever you get a full ride since you'll achieve all your dreams and ...

Harvard is really pushing work experience, so that may be a factor for dinging some high number KJDs.

Re: LSL Veterans Thread

It wouldn't hurt to come to the negotiation with some ammunition. Have you tried getting stipend aid from one of your school's competitive public counterparts? Also, I tried knocking the door of getting health insurance covered as a mandatory fee and got an emphatic "no". The VA definitely covers r...

Chicago won’t. Berkeley allegedly will. I think UT may. You have to ask the schools.

Re: W&M (134k) v. Boulder (126k) for JAG?

FWIW, none of the JAG officers I worked with were from highly ranked schools. Also, I neglected to give my standard advice of: 1) The military is a specific lifestyle. You give up a lot of freedom when you join. The military also generally does not give a fuck about your personal life, family, or ha...

Re: W&M (134k) v. Boulder (126k) for JAG?

I knew a guy in college who did ROTC while in law school at W&M. He somehow worked it to get a full tuition scholarship, I think. Maybe worth looking into, but this was back in like 2011.
