Re: Please give me feedback on my personal statement

I agree with ymmv, this seems to cover the ground that you need for a statement. I had Grammarly turned on when I reviewed this in Google Docs and there were only 7 items that it flagged none of it worth getting excited about. For what it is worth this is the advice provided by the software: 1. gun ...

May I ask, is there any particular motivation for law school in general, and more specifically why in the US?

Re: GPA Calculation in Transfer Stats

If memory serves the GPA reported on the 509 forms is not based on the GPAs issues from the schools, it is calculated based on how LSAC calculates your GPA from the transcripts that you submit to them as part of the application process.

Hmmm, perhaps the Russians are unhappy with the way Columbia is processing their apps as well.

Given how well they are connected to the former president and most of the GOP you would think they would have some leverage here.

Re: Which job should I take?

First of congrats! It sounds like either could be a great option for you. While I agree with BU that reporting to a team in the EU can be a pain at multiple levels, I get a sense you have some excitement for the role with SU. Many years ago, I spent time with a tech startup, unfortunately it did not...

Re: SCOTUS and Other Big Cases

I completely missed the Fulton decision, somehow. Fuck this court. Can someone explain to me how Fulton does not lead to a bizarro world where any law that has any discretion built for some type of hypothetical case will no longer apply to anyone who pretends to be a member of a “religion”? ETA Loo...

(unlike things like growing wheat in your yard for your own consumption). My apologies that you're the one I'm unloading this pet peeve on, but: Why in the heck does everyone want to read that case as "for his own consumption"? The dude was growing wheat to feed to cows to produce milk that he sold...

idk if striking down indentured servitude is much of a lib win. especially when, based on that excerpt, his reasoning seems to be on antitrust grounds instead of human dignity or whatever bullshit Kennedy would have authored. he's basically saying "it doesn't make sense to limit the ability to expl...

Welcome to the forum, I suspect as a group we are fairly US centric, so I am not sure what direct info we may be able to provide. I went to London for two summers in order to attend comparative law courses at BPP back when I was in law school. By no means does this make me an expert on matters relat...

Re: SCOTUS and Other Big Cases

The pages of argument around the meaning of the word “so” in Van Buren seem like bullshit, although I am not opposed to the general outcome of limiting the applications of the computer fraud and abuse act based on a legitimately authorized user failing to adhere to an internal policy.

Re: Anyone here who left a safe/golden-handcuffs career?

The money was not dramatically different. In part this was because I was with a government agency that was on a different pay scale than most. The biggest driver in making the change was that most orgs (government and otherwise) were moving more and more of their IT efforts to cloud companies. Given...

Re: Anyone here who left a safe/golden-handcuffs career?

I left a very safe position as with the federal government to take a role with a cloud services company. It was an interesting experience, and I made a bit more money in the short run, but it is significantly muted when considering what I would have received in retirement benefits. After about a yea...

From memory, these numbers would position you very well in these areas historically. A word of caution, I have seen reports that this year has been a bonkers year, with a spike of high scoring applicants in the system compared to recent years.I would suggest taking a look at some of the Spivey blog ...

This does sound messed up.

If I had been accepted at a school that I had applied to and they told me I was out of luck later on the same day I would have been pissed. I am glad that people are drawing attention this for future applicants.

I went to a part-time program while keeping working full time on the career path I had been on for many years. When I started down this path, I had no intent of making a major career plan, instead I was looking to alter the path that I was already on. The common advise is that this is a losing propo...

Outside of HYS, no one will care. Law schools are ranked on what your GPA is not on if your schools grades are a joke.
