Re: What was your first law job/salary & where are you now?
1. Lewis & Clark 2. 2015 3. In-house and quality control for SPMI non-profit, started 50k, ended 65k, stayed 2 years 4. In-house for mid-size labor union, 80k + pension, paid health for me+spouse, 4 weeks vacation, 9 holidays. Salary is low comparatively to the other labor unions in the area and I'm...

Re: 3rd yr to in-house possible?
If you're looking to get into employer side labor/employment law: go to hell you rat fuck. First of all 🙄 and second, these are the on-topics. If you want to debate the merits of employer or employee-side L&E, go for it. But do it respectfully and without name calling. Thanks. Sorry, it was meant t...

Re: 3rd yr to in-house possible?
I started as an in-house, but I don't think there's a real set standard for this because it depends on your connections, the industry and/or your other background experience. Going in-house for a health care organization may make sense with little legal experience if you have, for example, several y...

Re: How To Politely Deal With Someone In The Office Whose Coughing Is Out Of Control
Honestly, if you've got any Dexter in you, this guy seems like the perfect first-go. Some pretty strange stuff could show up on his autopsy and nobody would suspect a thing as long as coughing is a symptom of the cause of death. Doing this might make you a psychopath, and posting this might make me...

Re: Labor & Employment
Thanks so much for sharing this info! Would you mind describing your background leading up to this job? Any relevant experience before and during law school, how hard it was finding a labor law job, what helped you land this position, etc? And if I’m understanding this correctly, is this you’re fir...

Re: Labor & Employment
Any union/plaintiff-side L&E lawyers out there who can share their experiences? Well I've only been a union attorney for three weeks but, uhh, nobody else is speaking up and I AM the sole general counsel for a 4000 person union. I guess I'd boil it down to contracts, negotiation, and arbitration. A...

Re: What is a reasonable income arrangement for a new attorney joining a solo-practitioner?
I just posted this thread, pretty related: https://www.lawschool.life/forums/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=2217 But our workflow is stable and I have only dipped below 30 hours a week a few times, and am now comfortably at 30-40 per week. If the work isn't there, though, then it rapidly becomes iffy. At wha...

Re: What is a reasonable income arrangement for a new attorney joining a solo-practitioner?
My gut says this is a less than ideal arrangement. But since she knows the firm, does she have an idea of how much business he gets in a year? Is the work primarily hourly or contingent fee basis? Does he have any idea of how much work he will actually have for her, and if so, how much of that is h...

What is a reasonable income arrangement for a new attorney joining a solo-practitioner?
My SO recently passed the bar and was asked to work with the solo practitioner she has been a legal assistant to for several years. He focuses primarily on personal injury, toxic torts, landlord/tenant, and estate planning. The idea is she can handle the easier cases until she builds up some experie...

Re: February 2018 Waiters Thread
Passed! What. A. Relief. Congrats out there to those who also passed and head up to those who didn't. Seriously, this doesn't define who you are, and arguably it only defines you as a lawyer to the extent that you let it. For future reference: 276 score, 141 MBE. Did 1500 adaptibar questions (proba...

Re: Feb 18 MBE Scores Hit New All-Time Low
Lower scores going in; lower scores coming out. Not exactly rocket science. Having completed over 3000 practice MBE questions with at least 40-50% directyl from practice exams, and 6-8 practice essays in every UBE essay topic, my anecdotal experience was that the questions on this bar exam were not...

Also congrats to everyone else in this thread too, pass or not! I haven't congratulated anyone because I'm self-centered and have just been ruminating the entire time. And that's bad.

Re: February 2018 Waiters Thread
Lots of people crushing it. Congrats! Sweating it out until Tuesday for NY. On one hand I missed it by two points in July and I studied alot smarter, felt more comfortable with the material. On the other, scores generally seem to be down and I think I botched an essay. 1. I completely forgo...

Re: February 2018 Waiters Thread
I passed!!
157.9 MBE 146 Written!
Results aren't supposed to come out for Oregon until 2pm tomorrow, but I live 5 minutes away from the Oregon state bar and I guess I got my letter a day early.
I don't know my breakdown yet because I've only got the letter, NCBE hasn't posted my scores.

10 more days until we get ours in Oregon, would it kill them to release them a bit early for once? I want to burn my Themis books and I can't until I know for sure.

I'm not anxiously waiting or constantly thinking about it or anything, but I definitely haven't recovered as a person. Driving to work on Thursday and Friday I kept thinking I should be listening to a lecture on the way in. And today I meant to work on some stuff around the house or go out to a mov...

Any ideas about where to get health insurance for this period and how much it will cost? My school's health insurance ends mid-August, and I dont start working until late October. I think I am just looking for insurance with a high deductible that will cover me if I get in a car accident or somethi...

They don't know you're STILL fit to practice law. Maybe you got the hunger and cannibalized a bunch of homeless folks between now and the last time you had C&F.

I said contract, because isn't the general rule that buyer has equitable title at contract? Hence why they're on the hook when the house burns down before they get the deed.
